Fire hoses allow water to be transported to hydraulic firefighting devices.

These are flexible hoses fitted with standardized fittings. Some countries use Guillemin type fittings; other countries use Storz type fittings or screw fittings.

A division can be installed which allows several lances to be supplied from a single pipe coming from the van.

Long hoses are stored on a reel, a wheeled drum with a handle for pulling. There are also fixed rotating reels on fire trucks for extinguishing small fires, with a semi-rigid hose (rotating reel nozzle or LDT, similar to a fire hose reel or RIA).

Most modern pipes are described as having a "smooth inner wall" (SIL); because this inner wall is rubberized, they exhibit less pressure loss than traditional pipes. The outer walls are either textile (polyester) or rubberized.
