An armed fire valve, or RIA, is essential equipment for fighting early fires. Supplied with water, it allows immediate intervention, accessible to everyone, whether qualified or not. In the event of an emergency, it provides protection for at least 20 minutes, while waiting for the fire brigade to arrive.

Importance and Obligation:
RIAs are mandatory in certain establishments open to the public (ERP), many industrial establishments and high-rise buildings (IGH).

Installation Rules:
The RIA installation standards are detailed in standard NF S62-2011. They can be installed in cabinets, provided they are marked with a unique nameplate, number or letter. They must be placed between 1,20 m and 1,80 m above the ground, except in shopping centers to avoid damage caused by shopping carts.

An RIA includes:
Axial feed wire feeder: Rotating and generally pivoting through at least 170°.
Shut-off valve: Attached to the hose reel.
Semi-rigid hose: Maximum length of 30 meters, with options of 20 m or 30 m according to French regulations.
Diffuser tap with three positions: Off, diffused jet (cone or sheet), straight jet.
The RIAs are available in dimensions DN19/6, DN25/8, DN33/12. The first number represents the inside diameter of the pipe, the second the diameter of the diffuser orifice.

Minimum Performance:
Under a pressure of 4 bars, the minimum RIA flow rates are:
DN19/6: 34 l/min
DN25/8: 58 l/min
DN33/12: 128 l/min

The minimum jet ranges are:
Protection diffusion: 6 meters
Diffused attack jet: 3 meters
Straight throw: 10 meters
